Krishnambal teacher was born on September 11, 1940, at Senkottah in Tirunelvel District, Tamil Nadu. She was the younger of the two daughters born to Mr. R. Subramanian, formerly with the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, New Delhi, and Mrs. Sankari.
She moved to Delhi when she was young and started her schooling at the MEA Higher Secondary School (now DTEA Senior Secondary School), Mandir Marg. She completed her eleven years of schooling there in 1956-57.
After schooling she did her graduation from Lady Shriram College of Delhi University. After graduation she did her B. T./B. Ed. from Ferozepur University, Punjab, in 1960-61. While teaching at MEA Hr. Sec. School, Lodi Estate, she did an MA in English as well.
Ms. Krishnambal began her teaching career in August 1961 at MEA Hr. Sec. School, Karol Bagh (Pusa Road), and after a year she moved to the Lodi Estate branch where she taught for many years till the late 1980s. Initially she taught mathematics and after doing her MA in English she switched to teaching English. Later she was transferred to DTEA Sr. Secondary School, RK Puram, where she remained till superannuation in Sept.-Oct. 2000. Post retirement she used to teach many poor children for free.
During her entire teaching career she was active in various extra-curricular activities like dramatics and other cultural activities and encouraged students to take active part in them.
Besides her profession, Krishna teacher had a wide variety of interests. She was an avid, self-taught painter. In her early years she was into oil painting, batik, fabric painting etc. She hosted two exhibitions of her works at AIFACS Gallery in New Delhi. Later she learnt Tanjore School of painting and also did some clay modeling.
She was interested in music to. In her early years she learnt classical vocal music and later on took to playing the Hawaiian guitar. She later learnt playing the veena as well. She was greatly interested in gardening. She loved cats and over the years had many cats as pets.
Ms. Krishnambal passed away on December 5, 2010, at the age of 70, following prolonged illness for about 8 months. She was undergoing treatment for diabetes and kidney related complications and died of cardiac arrest.
She was a spinster and is survived by her elder sister Ms. S. Rajalakshmi (who was also a teacher at Laxmibai Ngr.) and her family.
